When a gang kidnaps a computer genius, a woman gets killed in the scrum. Turns out that she's the wife of a senator and then … well, that's just one twist in this exceedingly strange thriller. Film buffs will go wink-wink, nudge-nudge at how the director, Sebastian Gutierrez, grafts the influence of Pedro Almodovar onto Quentin Tarantino: the first few minutes are pornography, then it's a legit thriller, then it goes all weird again, and that's before — wait for it — Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman appear as New Orleans cops. Thompson does a Frances McDormand in Fargo: she's tough, funny and has a honey of a scene on a train. She also gets her beau, Greg Wise, to play the kidnap victim. As for Rickman — his accent is as broad as Texas and it's a creepily unreal performance. Made for cable TV, this could become a cult.
