You aren't a soldier. You are a weapon. A mysterious paramilitary force infiltrates a multi-billion dollar aerospace compound, taking hostages but issuing no demands. A Special Forces team is sent in by the government to contain the situation, but contact is severed as an eerie signal interrupts radio communications. When the interference subsides moments later, the team has been obliterated. Live footage of the massacre shows an inexplicable wave of destruction tearing the soldiers apart before they can even react.

In light of the desperate situation the F.E.A.R. team is assembled. As part of this elite classified strike force created to deal with the most unusual and shocking of threats, your mission is simple: Eliminate the intruders at any cost. Determine the origin of the signal and contain this crisis before it spirals out of control.

F.E.A.R more like P.A.N.T.S

LoveFilms Dude from London, UK, 9th June, 2007

I bought the PS3 for top quality (in every sense) games - graphics, gameplay, HD quality etc etc etc!!! I switched this off after 20 mins - 10 of which I was made to wait around for the loading to finish and the bogus story line. THE GRAPHICS!!!!!!!! Are soooooooo poor !!! Part of the reason I turned off - thankfully this was a rental. I would have been cheesed off if I bought this with hard cash!!! DONT EVEN RENT THIS!!!

Uninspiring

Greg from Weymouth, Dorset, 27th April, 2007

First and foremost, this game is a port. The development studio have simply translated the code from the 360 version to get it to work on the PS3. What this means is that you get no next-gen characteristics to this game at all. Graphics, sound, AI are all firmly rooted in PS2 era. This doesn't make it a bad game by any means, and the story line is strong enough to keep you interested. But don't think this game is the future of the platform (indeed don't think of it as the present). 360 fans have been using this game as evidence that the 360 is the better hardware - It isn't (no really it isn't), but if the studio continue to roll out this level of game then it might as well be. Resistance is a better PS3 title if first person shooters are your thing, and even CoD3 has gorgeous graphics to look at, even with a weak storyline. Until the platform has matured a bit, I would be careful about buying any titles without doing my homework. Basic ports of this kind do nothing for the PS3.

Not even worth a rent

Julian Rosser from Exeter, UK, 31st August, 2007

This was my most wanted rent, it sounded fun and even though it had bad reviews I thought it couldnt be that bad. and I was so pleased when it came this morning, after about 15 minutes of movies, you start the game, its scary in some places and I was looking forward to that, but thing you notice is how poor the graphics are, this is suppost to be a ps3 game?! The story sound fun at the begining, but all you do is walk through hundreds of offices, halls and rooms finding bodies or shooting guards. Its also quite easy, even though its hard to aim. I also tried online which is more fun but there was only 1 room and about 6 people playing. You can slow down time which is quite fun for a minute or two, but after about an hour I took the disk out, put it back in the envolope and sent it back. If anything this should of been released on ps2. Do not even bother renting! Try Resistance of Graw2 instead.

UNDERRATED TOP GAME

Visitorx from from Slough, 9th May, 2008

to all sierra fans out there i must say this title will not put u down.. i got instantly involved with the decent and horror story.. beleive me this game will send shivers at some points.. overall i will rate this game 5 out of 5. this might not be the best in graphics but its not bad either.. player moves, tactics and how the story unfolds is just gorgeous. This game reminded me of half life (did i mention that was also a sierra classic?) In the beginning i was not sure if i should rent this game out after reading the reviews but i wanted to try it anyway.. to all the reviewers please do justice on what u write.. u cant just write off a game after playing couple of minutes..

F.E.A.R. Nothing ...

Razorhorn from , 1st May, 2008

A good game on the PC, but the transition to PS3 isnt the best ... Not really impressed ... And not worth wasting a spot in your queue of titles.

For The Tryouts

Splint07 from from Kent, England, 25th April, 2008

As many reviews have said already, this game isn't much compared to the original PC version, though for those reviews which are interested to rent this game because their PC specification isn't good enough to run fear, I would say this is a game to try out. Nothing to lose really. The game it's self I would say is quite amusing, considering your playing as first person with multiple weapons and have the ability to slow down time which is a great feature. Graphics are not as high as the PC version, but then again the creators didn't remake this game for the PS3, they just transferred it over. But as for the storyline, you have to try and take down a girl, but the girl is basically a ghost, devil in disguise, she takes over the figure of a man, which kills many people and forms a cloned army. Throughout the storyline you get closer to killing him, but do you manage to? The special effects while playing and the music, aswell as the spooky moments do keep you going, but the loading does take some time, keep your PS3 cool and it will run that extra bit quicker. I would rate this 2/5 compared to the PC version, but worth trying out :) hope this review is helpful.
