Combining the historical appeal and epic sequences of films like GLADIATOR and BRAVEHEART, director Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY) and producer Jerry Bruckheimer provide a sleek twist on the King Arthur legend. Arthur (Clive Owen), a brave Roman/British Christian warrior who leads his band of pagan knights on missions for the Empire, must complete one final mission before the knights can earn their freedom from servitude and Arthur can return to Rome. Along the way, however, Arthur realizes that the pullout of the Romans will open the door for a crushing invasion of Britain by the Saxons, and he takes it upon himself to fight with Merlin (Stephen Dillane) and Guinevere (Keira Knightley) for the freedom of the British people. Stunning battle scenes with extensive attention to historical detail rely very little on computer graphics and instead use intricately realistic props, costumes, and scenery. Featuring the largest film set ever built in Ireland, KING ARTHUR features a scale replica of Hadrian's Wall and two complete villages. Haunting music by composer Hans Zimmer completes this story of unselfish heroism, which ultimately provides a satisfying completion to the legend of Arthur and his knights.

Thanks for restoring my joy of film.

klanger13 from Macclesfield, 30th May, 2007

How can so many good actors (barring Clive Owen) be made to look so bad? See, I'm not sure Clive Owen has ever been good (although I hear Croupier is ok), but the rest of the cast seem pretty good on paper, so its a quite an achievement to make them look quite so bad. See, I wasn't even that bothered about the historical liberties taken, although it would have been nice if they'd followed the Bernard Cornwell books and made it at least half believable. But the acting! Oh dear. The only good thing I can say about the film was that it brought my expectations of films down a notch, allowing me to realise that some of the other films I have watched recently, that I thought were just ok, were actually very good. You could almost say it restored my joy of film, by resetting the low end of the scale at which I judge films. So thankyou King Arthur, for giving me back the joy. And it doesn't get any better on Bluray either.

Customer Review

A Customer from UK, 23rd June, 2008

Take battle sequences from a host of much better films, cobble them together, add wooden acting, a generous sprinkling of cliche and mix with turkey gravy. Serve with absolute predictability.

Of my worst films top (?bottom) 10, it's probably a new entry at 5.

Spotted it as a turkey about 5 mins in. Watched it at a mix of x1.5 and x10 speed on my PS3 (handy function that).

Don't waste your time.

A great action Movie

JohnKen from from KENDAL, 3rd June, 2008

I enjoyed this film for its great production and scenery and the development of an almost possible history. Well created battle scenes - but also believable characterisation - and not just the lead players. Well worth getting - especially in HD.

Um... Stellan Skarsgard playing a Saxon with an American accent sums the film up...
