Best DVD I've hired so far

A Customer from London, England, 28th February, 2006

Yes - I agree with the these reviews - this DVD is really excellent. Danny Gill is an great demonstrator. He talks a lot, telling you all sorts of little tit bits to help get the songs sounding like Jimi and Danny does a good job of teaching the style of Jimi through these songs. The only small gripe I have is that although his guitar sounds great, he plays the distorted passages with a rather hefty echo effect on board which can muddy the sound just when you want it to be clear (while you're learning at least). But you get used to it and I even grew to like it. This DVD features Danny playing each track from beginning to end, which is useful for when you've learned the song. Danny also demonstrates the strat pickup system and a few neat tricks that Jimi used to get the most out of it.

Customer Review

A Customer from UK, 23rd June, 2008

The DVD shows how Danny Gill plays Hendrix in the same way as your mate would show you, which is basically, 'watch me and copy'. As an actual instructional DVD it is poor as it doesn't give precise details of how to play the songs. Good for an accomplished guitar player, perhaps.

Excellent tuition DVD

Ani from Brighton, England, 22nd March, 2007

I have watched many 'how to play guitar' DVD's, this has to be one of the best. The production is excellent, they have obviously put a lot of time & money into making it, something that lacks from many other guitar tuition DVD's. I'd say this is for the intermediate guitar player, it may frustrate the beginner but as they say practice makes perfect, so stick with it. There are some classic songs to learn here, which when mastered can easily be applied to your own songs or performances.

Outstanding

Justin from London, England, 3rd January, 2007

Ok, if you're a complete novice on the guitar, this DVD is NOT for you. Then again you shouldn't expect to play exactly like Jmi Hendrix (probably the greatest ever electric guitar player) if you just started. On the other hand if you can already play and you'd like to learn how to get those complex sounding rifts down...this is the DVD for you. I can't read music and this DVD really worked for me. I already knew really excellent techniques for some songs like 'Hey Joe' but what I learned on this DVD was some of the complex stuff. For example the intro and solo for 'Little Wing' always alluded me, but now I can play the whole song great...I've even amazed myself. It's a beautiful bit of music. Same goes for the solo and outro for 'Wind Cries Mary'. There's a lot to take in and I wouldn't expect to have everything down in just one or two hours...the DVD also includes some excellent tips on some tricks Hendrix used to get effects from the Strat...how the pickup configurations work and some performances to play along to. Really looking forward to checking out the 2nd disk in this series.
