As 6-year-old Andy's favourite toy, Woody (Tom Hanks), a take-charge, pull-string cowboy, is confident in his role as room leader. But after Andy's birthday party, newcomer Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), a flashy space ranger with laser action and pop-out wings, crash-lands into Woody's world. Buzz instantly wins the admiration of Andy's other toys, igniting a rivalry that lands the duo inside the home of Sid - the toy-torturing boy next door. To escape Sid's evil plans, Woody and Buzz must work together and realize they've got the perfect friend: in each other!

Where animated films turned a big corner

JediSi from , 25th August, 2007

Toy Story is the first fully computer-generated full-length feature film. Set in Andy's bedroom, before the family moves house, his mother decides to throw a birthday party for him. Led by Woody, Andy's toys are all worried that the new birthday presents will replace them and, with the help of Sarge and his platoon of plastic soldiers, the toys begin a mission to find out exactly what Andy’s gifts are. All is going well with Andy receiving board games and a lunch box, and the toys all breathe a sigh of relief as they think it’s all over. Until a ‘special’ gift is pulled from the cupboard. Enter, Buzz Lightyear. Buzz quickly becomes unwanted competition in the ‘Andy’s favourite toy’ race, and Woody won’t take it lying down and sets out to prevent Buzz becoming number one. Whilst Woody is concentrating on his efforts against Buzz, they both miss the all important moving day. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen provided excellent voices for Woody and Buzz Lightyear -their performances alone are one of the biggest things that made this such a spectacular movie. Besides that, though, you have the excellent story that is not only noteworthy because it has never really been told from this perspective before, but also because it was just told so well. The computer animation used for this movie not only made it startlingly realistic but also opened up tons of possibilities, and thankfully the filmmakers chose to explore these possibilities. Toy story truly is the turning point of kids films. Great stuff

Excellent

Billy Ewins from London, England, 11th January, 2007

This is one of those very good movies that are only put on DVD every 5 years or so. Toy Story 1 is a brilliant movie about a toy cowboy called Woody and a toy space ranger called Buzz Lightyear. The story goes that Woody is afraid that Buzz is going to replace him (Buzz was a birthday present) so Woody tries everything to try and make him go away, but by Woody tricking Buzz to kick himself out Andy's house, does that mean Woody is sacrificing himself? Find out by watching the Movie!

Feature disk

Luca Cattani from UK, 24th March, 2008

I did not asked for the feature disk, and in the order form online is possible to select only the movie Disk, but you shipped the second one anyway. I did the same with other James bond film, and I will see what happen. I think is not fair, I ask for 2 DVD every month and you count the one i didn't ask as one.

Computer animation

carol from lancashire, 22nd May, 2005

The first film of its kind, a partnership between Pixar and Disney. One of those very rare childrens films that can be watched over and over and you still see new details. Some of the toys in this are timeless classics. There are toys and games that I remember having as a kid and toys that MY kids have now. At the time of its release it spurned a whole range of toys such as Buzz and it was something of a feat if you managed to get one. The story is a simple one, with a bit of a message - PLAY NICE - bit of peril, action, rescue and enduring friendship.

Saw this when it first came out in 1995, and although hundreds of cartoons have come out since, it is still the best cartoon ever made.
