Halliwell's Film Guide

Earnest coming-of-age and coming-out drama, effectively written and acted for the most part, but a little glib.

Perhaps one of the best..

JAMIE from Sutton, Surrey, England., 1st October, 2006

This film is perhaps one of the best coming of age stories out there, right next to Beautiful Thing, this film is set and filmed in the UK, Steven Carter Falls in love with the school jock (hunk, sports bod), the feelings are mutual and the two set out to explore all of their feelings, what they mean and the various consequences that follow. It is one most realistic and easy to relate to films I have seen on this topic but most of all it is British! Enjoy. It is warm, not crude with some light element of stereotyping but easily forgivable! One of those films you wish was just a little longer! 5 stars

a feel good film to feel good about

A Customer from Uxbridge, 20th April, 2004

This goes to show that the British Film Industry can tackle sensitive subjects with skill.

Basically, gay teenager finds love/infatuation with closeted school hero, leading to predictable yet enduring scenarios.

This film speaks volumes to anyone who has been in a similar position, either gay/gay, straight/straight or gay/straight.

Watch it, enjoy it, learn from it.

Five stars all the way.

yay!!!!

Phillip from York, England, 12th April, 2007

I'm not sure if I gave this film 5 stars because it's brilliant or becuase of more sentimental reasons.I watched this film a few years ago, and it was the first 'gay film' I ever saw. It means a great deal to me. However I never bought it, or watched it again. I'm scared I might not feel the same way about it if I watch it now, like it will mean less to me. Anyway! It's a heart warming story of love, friendship and bravery, showing us that if nothing else, to thine ownself be true. P x

Not a good gay film.

A Customer from York, 2nd June, 2008

I would not agree that this film is good. It's dull. The central romance is not believeable, especially with the 25-year-old trying to play a 16-year-old. And the script is dated, as it was written as a play a decade before it came onto the screen. I wouldn't recommend this one.
