Radio Times

This crowd-pleasing cartoon musical from Walt Disney had enormous box-office appeal, and proved so popular that it was adapted as a spectacular stage show. For the children there's the story of how a lion cub, exiled by his wicked uncle, achieves his destiny (Disney loves orphans); for grown-ups there's a visual feast of exciting animation work and some good Elton John songs. Voices range from Whoopi Goldberg to Rowan Atkinson, with Jeremy Irons a vocal standout as the evil uncle Scar. A straight-to-video sequel, The Lion King: Simba's Pride, followed.

Halliwell's Film Guide

An entertaining animated drama with some stunning moments, but a somewhat preachy tone; it isn't as much fun as the recent Disney features, although it found great favour with the public.

As good if not better than anything from the Disney studios to date!

younglochinvar from from Prestatyn, 25th September, 2007

The only film I've ever seen more than once in a cinema. Admittedly I was accompanied by at least one of my two young children on each ocassion! The soundtrack takes your breath away and is probably only done justice by a cinematic surround-sound system.

I don't like animation films normally But when i watched this on pirate (last time i do that), I went back to the cinema and watched it again. It is walt disneys best ever serious film with a great soundtrack.

My Favourite Walt Disney Film.

Cornetto from , 15th August, 2007

Along with my children we have watched and rated almost all Walt Disney Productions and by far this is my favourite tale. Simba who is in line to be king is tricked by his evil uncle into thinking that he has killed is father, so upset he runs away. The journey of this young cub is fantastic as he develops into a magnificent Lion. The animation and colours used are wonderful and vivid and the music/songs by Elton John and Tim Rice were brilliant. 'Circle of Life' 'Can you feel the love tonight' gives you goose bumps. The children were amazed by all the different african animals and were glued to the screen, I enjoyed the heartwarming tale. Highly recommended to watch.
