Spielberg 'still on board for Tintin'

Steven Spielberg will still direct the first movie in a planned Tintin trilogy, despite suggestions to the contrary.

The Jaws legend was set to helm the first film, with Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson taking over for subsequent instalments.

However, Herge Studios – which owns the rights to the comic strip character – said on Tuesday that Jackson was now set to direct the first movie.

Representatives of both Jackson and Spielberg have refuting the claims made by Herge, confirming that Spielberg is still taking the director's chair.

The new movie will be based on the Tintin books The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jackson will serve as a producer for the first movie before stepping in for directorial duties.

Young British actor Thomas Sangster will take the role of Tintin, with Lord of the rings actor Andy Serkis starring as his ally Captain Haddock.
