Second week at top for Tropic Thunder

Tropic Thunder has remained at number one on the North American box office for its second weekend.

Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr and Jack Black head the cast of the comedy, which took $16.1 million (£8.7 million) during its second week on release.

New campus comedy The House Bunny followed closely behind, with earnings of some $15.1 million.

Coming in at third place was Death Race –a remake of the cult 1975 film Death Race 2000 – which pulled in $12.3 million.

The huge interest for Christopher Nolan's second Batman film The Dark Knight shows little sign of dying just yet, with the movie taking another $10.3 million over the weekend.

It has now pulled in some $489.2 million in the US, making it the second-highest grossing film of all time – second only to James Cameron's 1997 hit Titanic.

The new Star Wars animated adventure The Clone Wars completed the top five, with takings of $5.7 million.
